The Tatas Tournament could not happen without the generosity of our community.
We are grateful.
This year's Celebrate the Tatas Tournament of Champions honorees are Rabbi Judy Schindler and Susan Kent. Both women are role models and champions in their own rights, paving the way so that others can have medical access and breast mammogram services that could save lives.
Susan’s journey with breast cancer began 7 years ago. She had just completed a 10k and was feeling great, but one morning while lying in bed, she discovered a pea-sized lump in her breast. Acting proactively, she immediately sought a mammogram and soon after, underwent a biopsy which revealed that she had triple-negative breast cancer. Learning that she had one of the most aggressive forms of the disease was undoubtedly a shock, and she faced the prospect of chemotherapy, surgery, and six weeks of daily radiation. Despite the challenges, she chose to confront her diagnosis head-on, both figuratively and literally. Even when she lost her hair, she embraced it, continuing to go to the gym every day where she found strength and solace among her peers. It wasn't easy, but she made a conscious decision to maintain a positive attitude, whether it was facing the chemo room or simply going to the grocery store. She owes a debt of gratitude to her family and friends who rallied around her during this challenging time.
Rabbi Judy’s story is one of deep compassion and unwavering commitment to the well-being of her community. For years, she has been a beacon of hope and support, not only through her spiritual leadership but also in her advocacy for health equity and wellness. Her dedication to ensuring that all individuals, regardless of their financial situation, have access to essential medical services has been a driving force in her life. Rabbi Judy has tirelessly worked to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer screenings, understanding that early detection can make all the difference. Her empathy and action have touched countless lives, and she continues to inspire others to join the fight against breast cancer.
Although we've made significant strides in treating breast cancer, there is still much ground to cover. That's why Rabbi Judy and Susan are proud to support Talia Goldman and the North Carolina Adult Soccer Association in their 11th year of organizing the Celebrate the Tatas Tournament of Champions. This event, lovingly referred to as the Tatas, brings together participants from 6 states to not only compete on the field but also to raise funds for mammograms for uninsured patients in the Charlotte community. Last year alone, the Tatas gifted $55,000 that was split between Novant Health and Atrium's Levine Cancer Institute. Mammograms really do save lives, and we are deeply passionate about ensuring that others have access to life-saving breast screenings.
We urge all of you to join us in supporting this vital cause. Your contribution, regardless of size, will make a significant difference in the lives of those in need of mammograms. Together, we can help save lives and work towards a future free of breast cancer.

Not only will teams be competing for glory on the pitch, but they will also be involved in a heated donation race. Since our tournament began in 2014, we have donated close to $185,000. In 2023 alone, we were able to donate $27,500 each to Novant Health and Levine Cancer Institute for Mammograms. Help us reach our 2024 goal of adding $50,000 to that! Reach out to families, friends, businesses, leagues, and encourage donors to contribute to Celebrate the Tatas online. The team with the highest donation total will win our coveted Donation Award!
