In our 12th year of raising funds for life-saving mammograms, Celebrate the Tatas is proud to showcase the stories that inspire our mission. We honor those who have fought breast cancer - and those who have stood beside them: Mothers, daughters, sisters, aunts, best friends, and caregivers who have walked this journey together. This year we invite you to share your story. Tell us about your loved one. Celebrate their strength. Help us raise critical funds to ensure that more women have access to the mammograms that could save their lives. Together, let's turn our stories into action - and hope! Please give generously.
My mom, Susie Boyle, is one of the strongest women I know. Her passion for helping and loving others shines through in everything she does. As her daughter, I’ve watched her be a devoted wife, a nurturing mother, and a steadfast friend, facing life’s hardest challenges with courage and faith.
In 2013, my mom was diagnosed with Stage 0 breast cancer. Though caught early, it was a shock to our family since she had always been active and healthy. After two surgeries and 33 days of radiation, she became cancer-free and returned to living life to the fullest, cherishing every moment with us and her loved ones. Soon afterward, her mom, my grandmother, was also diagnosed with breast cancer. It was scary, but my mom’s strength and experience guided her through treatment to survive.
For 11 years, my mom remained cancer-free, living joyfully and with gratitude. Then, in 2024, during a routine mammogram, she received the devastating news that her breast cancer had returned. This time she chose a single mastectomy, determined to make it her last battle with the disease. Despite undergoing two surgeries, she never lost her positivity or her faith in God’s plan.
Through it all, her smile never faded. She continued being the loving mom, wife, and friend she has always been. Today, she stands as a two-time breast cancer survivor, a beacon of hope, strength, and perseverance for all who know her.
Writing this from my heart as her daughter, I hope her story reminds everyone of the importance of early detection. Please make time to schedule your mammogram — it can save your life!
With love, Avery Boyle
She was wise, full of love, and had a signature fire. Malka taught, mentored, and inspired generations of students. She was extraordinary in every way—a powerhouse of education, a trailblazer, and a world-class teacher. As an award-winning principal, she declared every student she met to be her favorite. Every day was a gift, and every experience was to be treasured. She loved fiercely—and was fiercely loved in return.
My husband adored her. My children and my grandson hit the jackpot—she was their Savta.
But for me… she was everything. My best friend. My confidant. My cheerleader.
Malka bravely battled breast cancer, colon cancer, melanoma, lung cancer, and a recurrence of breast cancer over the span of 35 years.
It was in her honor that I founded Celebrate the Tatas—first with Painting Tatas, and later co-founding Tatas Soccer—all to raise funds for mammograms for uninsured women. A mammogram saved my mom’s life.
In her memory, I hope to save others.
Thank you for your generosity.
